Bake a cake with pill and get suspended.
A Department of Developmental Services employee who baked a cake with prescription pills in it has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, according to spokeswoman Joan Barnish.
Five residents were taken to area hospitals after they ate the cake on Sunday at a Cheshire group home. Barnish said it was confirmed the pills were a genetic antihistamine. The residents and staff were all doing fine, Barnish said on Monday.
The employee, whose name was not released, told state police on Sunday a bottle of her prescription medication spilled in the kitchen while she was baking on Saturday. She told police she didn’t realize any of the pills had made into the cake batter. The cake was served to residents and one staff member on Sunday when a staff member found pills in the cake and called police. Barnish said the employee will remain on administrative leave until the department looks into whether the incident “was other than accidental.”
